Preparing (and waiting!) for the Bahamas

After a month and a half away, Sam flew back to Miami on March 18th. First thing on his list when getting off the plane: grocery shopping before driving down to the Keys!! Everything is at least twice the price down here, and even more when you sail to the Bahamas. 800$ US later, the boat is full of canned veggies and fruits, beer and cereals! I was almost glad not to stay too long in the Bahamas, as the boat could not be more loaded. 😅 So we spent the first hours together sorting all the food, filling every hole of the boat and inventoring the whole thing.


The kids were super stocked to see their dad again! They didn't stop talking for days, telling him everything about catching lizards and our manatee friends. 
After everything was said, we were ready to sail away from Marathon. The kids and I have spent enough time wondering around, and we are ready for new places to explore! Unfortunately, the winds are not with us. It looks like northern winds for the next couple of days. 😓 There was a possible window today, but nothing perfect. We're expecting 3 days of 25-30 kts N winds starting tomorrow, so we decided to let it pass while being in known territories. We sailed up North to Key Largo today, and will wait here until we feel it. 

Can't wait to sail into the next step of our trip, even though Marathon has been a lot of fun for us!! Once again, thank you life!!!

Our final days in the Bahamas...

I can’t believe I’m already writing this post. A month and a half has gone by since we crossed the Gulf Stream, landed in Bimini and saw the crystal clear blue water of this piece of paradise...  So, after letting Virginie and Arnaud in Nassau, we set sails for the Berry Islands, a chain of islands that we explored on our way to the Exumas, but still had a lot of hidden gems to reveal. On our way there, as some of you might already know, I finally got to realize a dream of mine to catch my own mahi mahi! With MY line in the water, and MY muscles to take it out. It was so exciting, I hadn’t yelled of joy and adrenaline that much in a long time! Anyway, it made it the most delicious fish I had in my entire life. When friends come aboard...

One day after Sam’s parents left Black Point, a friend of mine and her 8 yrs old son flew in. We went to the airport to pick them up, which was super exciting!! From there, it would be an intense sail back up to Nassau for them to catch their return flight.  So we left Black Point early in the morning to get to Staniel Cay not too late. As I was still hoping to catch a mahi, we hesitated to go on the East coast because it was still pretty windy from the SE. What a bad decision we made to give it a try, as when we crossed the channel between two islands, the waves were chaotic and huge! First, the front bed got soaked before I got the time to realize the hatch was still opened, and second, it was so messy that it was, well let’s say inconfortable! We turned around and went to lick our wounds on the bank. 😓 It took the entire day to get the cushions to dry and to wash all the fabrics from the salty water... Arrival

We made it!! First day of driving was way too long for what it was, mostly because there was a huge line to cross the boarder and just to make it worst, it was something like 95F in the car, no AC. Thank you Grand-maman Ginette for the toy fans!!! They saved all of our lives.  Once on US soil, we had to go through "interrogation "  because our story was kinda unusual I guess. 😉 Obviously they believed it because we made to the other side!! Yesterday, the kids got to see the boat for the first time. That was exciting, even for us. We were super happy when Rolianne was launched in the water. AND when the engine started smoothly to get to our slip. 😁 We’re home!!!! We spent the rest of the day sorting things out and finalizing the little modifications that were still to be done on the boat. Same thing for this morning.  Fun fact: On both days, we  had to drop everything we were doing to head to the beach, because it’s freaking hot down here!!!
