When friends come aboard...

One day after Sam’s parents left Black Point, a friend of mine and her 8 yrs old son flew in. We went to the airport to pick them up, which was super exciting!! From there, it would be an intense sail back up to Nassau for them to catch their return flight.

So we left Black Point early in the morning to get to Staniel Cay not too late. As I was still hoping to catch a mahi, we hesitated to go on the East coast because it was still pretty windy from the SE. What a bad decision we made to give it a try, as when we crossed the channel between two islands, the waves were chaotic and huge! First, the front bed got soaked before I got the time to realize the hatch was still opened, and second, it was so messy that it was, well let’s say inconfortable! We turned around and went to lick our wounds on the bank. πŸ˜“ It took the entire day to get the cushions to dry and to wash all the fabrics from the salty water...

While the sheets and cushions were outside, they went to check out the pigs (again!). I say « they » because, well, I was not gonna land on that beach again.

After, we went to Thunderball grotto and had an amazing time! I just love the place. We then of course got a beer at the Yatch club, checked out the nurse sharks and filled up on food, gas and diesel. I even got lucky enough to score some fresh mahi at the dock from a guy who caught five on that day!! For free!!!!!! 🀩

The next day, we sailed to Compass Cay and went to Rachel’s bath, but the waves were not as impressive as last time we were there. Later, we motored to O’Brian’s Cay for some snorkeling time. The route to get there was just SO beautiful!! And the snorkeling at what they call « the aquarium » was a big hit. With the dinghy, we also went to a tiny isolated beach and had a blast playing in the deep natural pool next to it.

On the 5th, we sailed to Shroud Cay and it ended up being our favorite spot of all. Taking the dinghy within the island in the dinghy route, snorkeling with the turtles and hanging out at one of the most beautiful beaches of the Bahamas... Perfect day!

On the 6th, we ended up at Normann’s Cay to celebrate Arnaud’s birthday. We just played in the water and made a fire on the beach after the cake, but unfortunately, we were not the only ones at the beach. No-see-ums were there too. 🀬 Preparing the fire pit was way more fun...

The next morning, we sailed up to Allan’s Cay to check out the iguanas. They are so pretty!! We also walked around the island and swam between the boat and the beach. Nice little challenge with the current! Later that day, we left the Exumas with a bit of nostalgia, heading back to Nassau. Hopefully, it’s only an « Au Revoir »!

Nassau was, well, just as we left it. Busy and dirty. 😐 We did go to Fort Charlotte and that was really interesting! I wish I had seen more of the history of the place, but with kids, there is always a certain amount of time that you can spend in museums.

On the 9th, time had come to get our visitors back to shore. We had gotten used to have them around the boat, so it was a sad moment!! But ohhh... What a blast for all of us. Thanks for the company, Virginie and Arnaud!!!
