The end of a « once in a life time » trip...

Well well well... 10 months earlier, I was writing my first post on this blog, talking about why we made the decision to quit everything for a year on a sailboat.

Two weeks ago, we were leaving Rolianne behind in Fort Pierce, heading for a surprise stop at Universal Studios!






It was a perfect day to celebrate the sale, and it was even more perfect as there were no long line ups to do all the fun rides!! We all had our favorite, and I got to say that I even enjoyed meeting Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and Megatron. 😁









The Diagon Alley of Harry Potter was also a big hit for everyone, with its fire-breathing dragon, Ollivander's Wand Shop, The leaky Cauldron, etc. The only disapointment: we ordered a beer and ended up with a butterbeer. 😂



We then started our long trip back North, starting with Savannah, which I really wanted to visit. Walking on these historic streets and visiting a civic rights history museum made our morning before heading to Raleigh for the night. The next morning, we drove to Washington D.C. to visit some friends that we met on our journey South. It felt like just a couple of weeks ago, we were all playing at Mayo beach...






We also spent one night in Annapolis, visiting all the places that reminded us of our time in the area. Before the end of the day, we were back on the road, heading home. We spent a night in the middle of nowhere before crossing the Canadian border, spending the night in Orford. That's when we knew we were back in Quebec: it was so freaking cold!! 😅




On the 9th, we arrived in Pintendre to find our home just like we left it. We had such wonderful tenants that the place was cleaner than when we left!! After days of unpacking boxes, we are now almost settled. Sam is working on Monday. I'm starting a new job in July. The pool is running. The garden is growing. Like it never happened... A dream came true though, that we know for sure. 💕

We made it!! First day of driving was way too long for what it was, mostly because there was a huge line to cross the boarder and just to make it worst, it was something like 95F in the car, no AC. Thank you Grand-maman Ginette for the toy fans!!! They saved all of our lives.  Once on US soil, we had to go through "interrogation "  because our story was kinda unusual I guess. 😉 Obviously they believed it because we made to the other side!! Yesterday, the kids got to see the boat for the first time. That was exciting, even for us. We were super happy when Rolianne was launched in the water. AND when the engine started smoothly to get to our slip. 😁 We’re home!!!! We spent the rest of the day sorting things out and finalizing the little modifications that were still to be done on the boat. Same thing for this morning.  Fun fact: On both days, we  had to drop everything we were doing to head to the beach, because it’s freaking hot down here!!!...

First night out for Rolianne!

Finally! We made it outside Casa Rio marina with Rolianne! It took a little while for us to get her ready, but yesterday we took her out of her slip for the first time. It was not totally gracious (we had a hard time passing by the two wooden poles defining our spot with the wind) but once out there, it was a lot of fun to be in the Bay! After a little ride, we anchored in a quiet part of Rhode river, had a pizza on the BBQ and spent the night. It was awesome and refreshing!!

Return to “warmer” waters

Home sweet home... That’s how it felt when we got back to Rolianne after many hours on planes and in airports. The boat was just how it was when we left, apart from additional rust on different things we didn’t think of putting inside! We enjoyed the marina’s facilities for a little longer than we were supposed to, as we extended our stay there due to bad weather expected for a couple of days. So we went fishing and cleaned up the boat! 🤪 Finally, on the 23rd, we were able to leave the marina for some sailing and adventure in the Keys! We wanted to make it to Content Keys, to explore isolated beaches with the dinghy. We made it to Johnson Key the first day and anchored there for the night. It was again cold, windy and cloudy. January has been that way all around North America I guess! The next morning, we had to go hide in Bogie channel because the forecast was all about rain, thunderstorm and wind.
