Settling in our new home...

After sailing to Content Keys, we went back to Marathon to fill up on diesel, gas and water. We then anchored in Newfound Harbor South of Big Pine Key to celebrate Julianne’s birthday. 5 years old!!! Crazy how time flies. We went to a super cool place for lunch, called Kiki’s Sandbar Bar and Grill. They had this nice beach, hammocks, drinks and ice cream!! Perfect place if you ask me. I had managed to make a cake the night before, so she was stoked to have that and some presents in the evening! Coolest addition to this party: bioluminescence all around the boat. Yeah!

When the winds went down, we checked out Picnic Key as we were told that it was a really cool place to go and that there was a beach. We got there only to realized that it had been completely wiped out of the map by Irma!! There was only a tiny piece of land where some people were living in tents and hammocks. :(

So we moved to Molasses’s Key, and it felt like paradise to us! The weather had been so crappy for the past two weeks that just being in the sun with no wind was soothing. It’s still sad that there was a beach and everything before Irma, but the sandbar was just perfect for us. We saw tons of lemon sharks, spotted sting rays, jack and hermit crabs. We spent only two nights there, but we loved it. I even took the time to go fishing with Romain, and some mom/son time felt good for both of us I think. Even though we got really scared when a spotted ray jumped out of the water about 2 ft away from our dinghy!!

Finally, on the 4th of February, we reached the marina where I would spend 1 1/2 month with the kids while Sam is back to Antarctica. The place is clean, full of friendly people and the pool is, well it’s a pool. What more can I say! We now spend most of our time around the pool. The kids are like little fishes in there.  Sombrero beach is also nice, and we made some friends with kids the age of Julianne. We're all settled in now!

  1. Bioluminescence! I have not seen bioluminescence yet - can't wait to experience that some day. Happy Birthday to Julianne! Enjoy your rest time by the pool.
