Return to “warmer” waters

Home sweet home... That’s how it felt when we got back to Rolianne after many hours on planes and in airports. The boat was just how it was when we left, apart from additional rust on different things we didn’t think of putting inside! We enjoyed the marina’s facilities for a little longer than we were supposed to, as we extended our stay there due to bad weather expected for a couple of days. So we went fishing and cleaned up the boat! 🤪

Finally, on the 23rd, we were able to leave the marina for some sailing and adventure in the Keys! We wanted to make it to Content Keys, to explore isolated beaches with the dinghy. We made it to Johnson Key the first day and anchored there for the night. It was again cold, windy and cloudy. January has been that way all around North America I guess! The next morning, we had to go hide in Bogie channel because the forecast was all about rain, thunderstorm and wind. Personnally, I prefer being around civilization when it comes to bad weather. So we stayed there for 4 nights, waiting for a window to get out of there! Not much to do around, except the famous No Name Pub where the kids added their personnalized one dollar bills on the wall.

The night of the 27th was the worst night we had on the sailboat so far. Winds of around 40 knts fighting with the current, all night. The kids slept through it all, but Sam and I stayed awake for part of it, keeping an eye on our anchor watch to make sure that we were not dragging into other boats or to the shore! Weird system, really. Split between the cold northern winds and the warm southern ones.

FINALLY, we were able to head towards Content Keys. The water was so calm, it was one of the most beautiful days ever!! We saw a bunch of dolphins on the way there playing in the waves of our boat, and some more while in the dinghy. They passed right under us!!! 💚 Did I mentioned that I love dolphins?

We ended up at the beach, all by ourselves. Exactly what we wanted... Us and an hermit crab.
